Elena Oliveras

Art Critic (AICA -Argentina).
From the catalog of show "Reliquias y Mirones" (Relics and Peeping Toms), 1987

(...) Close to the deconstructive intention of post-modernism, Kravetz introduces us into the field of meta-language, that is to say the world of reflection on the art's own language, recovering, at the same time, the pictorial practice, the stylistic nomadism and archetypical images that put the stress on the mythicicing will of Man, and the determining subjective aspect of representation. (...) Although "relics" and "peeping-Toms" re-introduce the object and the human image they do not at all leave aside the pleasure for the impasto, the opposition of textures and the counterpoint-like game of cold and warm colors. The frantic brushstroke invades and saturates: the eye jumps from one place to another trying to find an anchor from where to start decoding. It is in this movement that the image appears as a labyrinth that constantly challenges us to discover its identity. But the representative sense will "explode" in the endless game of the gesture's unwinding. The pulverization of the image - a characteristic feature of contemporary production - springs up, in these cases from the acceptance of the condition of painting as the protagonist of a living gesturality that slides independently of the denotative image. Anyway, while the reference to the subject recedes, a new referent will vividly manifest itself: the pictorial practice as a constituent element of a field of trascendent subjectivity.
