Laura Gil

Art critic (AICA - Dominican Republic).
From " THE PULSE OF ARGENTINE PAINTING" Newspaper "El Caribe", Santo Domingo, Feb. 11, 1995

(...)In the case of Kravetz, sophistication is defined in the shape of a deliberated reference, we could say meta-linguistic, to the symbolic sense of the immediate the popular arts possess. (...) The human and its archetypes, existential feelings and those of aesthetic order, all the strangeness of the world, occur, like in the night of times on these flat backgrounds, like these of original ex-votos or tapestries, that, in spite of that very South American sense of intimacy of the space, have something of a Russian icon, of a Mexican mural. And have much of magic and of a kind of ritual ferocity, both blasphemous and sacred, of which the most characterized moments in the history of culture have been those of the first surrealism and of the Aztec country's folklore. Something deeply disturbing emerges form these figures, in the gold, in the blue, in the gestures that become eye, heart, horizon, stars... an indubitable plastic beauty is then torn by the strength of intuition, that always prevents the fall into estheticism, although decorative magic is not a stranger at all to these visual signs that, anyway, seem always tense and ready to be exalted.
